Termites Treatment

Although not many people realize it, termites do cause far more damage to buildings than weather phenomenon like hurricanes and tornadoes. What is most worrisome however is that when the worst occurs, it can be too late to salvage the structure meaning serious reconstruction work must be carried out. Most of the mid and southern states in the country are affected by the presence of termites in buildings. Termites generally feast on all cellulose material including drywall, wood beams and much more. They are prodigious eaters and a colony can run in the tens of thousands.

Despite the large number of termites that can make up a colony, they are very secretive and tend to dwell and ea in places far removed from most human interaction. Basements and attics are among the worst hit areas in the home. In order to get rid of an infestation, a homeowner should call in a pest control service. These professionals tend to have access to chemicals that work very efficiently at killing existing termites and creating a protective barrier to discourage those beyond the perimeter of the home from coming close. Baits are a common means of killing termites in colonies already infesting the home.

The worker ants are tricked into collecting food from the baits traps and taking it back to the colony where the rest of the termites share in the poison. The poison is not fast acting to give the worker termites treatment time to distribute the food among its colony members. Liquid treatments are usually also used around the perimeter of the home to create a protective barrier. The application is done on the ground around the house and along any exposed wood areas close to ground level. The liquid application will sink into the ground, also serving as a deterrent for subterranean termites that live below the surface.
